Lately, the topic of discussion in this current "Economic storm" that consistently repeats itself throughout my client on-site visits is setting the goal to "reinvent ourselves" not just as a company but as an employee of the organization as well. It is a hot issue for large corporate organizations, financial institutions, manufacturing and even small businesses.

We approach the planning phase of reinventing ourselves by defining the corporate continuous improvement plan. This is the first stage in the process of what is currently known as "LEAN/Six Sigma." This helps us to identify key elements or processes that can reduce costs and increase productivity. The goal is to implement those strategies and change the way we do business by creating time to introduce a new process, reinvent product design, and execute new brand marketing.

In order to achieve these goals, the "champions" must be involved in this corporate evolution of change. As an organization, this means determining those who are "promoters" of the newly developed strategies and objectives and be able to evaluate the success of the shift in corporate environment. As leaders of this reinvention process, the team of hiring managers and project leaders must develop their employees to be those "Champions of Change." Employees must be given the opportunity for professional and career development so that they enhance their talents and skills.

Developing employees involves training, coaching, and mentoring to support the organization's strategic direction. Employees use their knowledge and skills to contribute toward the change in the process improvements. Through coaching and mentoring programs, hiring managers are able to determine if the employee has the passion for success and can gauge future progress in meeting corporate goals.
