Getting laid off is hard, but finding a new job in this economy is something else entirely. And, unfortunately, workers who are over 40 are having the most trouble. But there are things you can do to increase your odds of securing work again.

Elizabeth Muellner of Career Transitions talked to WNDU on Take Charge Thursday, to explain some of the steps you can take to getting a job. “Energy level is everything,” explains Muellner. “Employees these days have more work to do, and less people to do it. So, they are really interested in people who have the energy to get the job done.”

Elizabeth also added that there are five things to remember when looking for a job, if you are over 40.

• Stay fit

• Keep skills, and technical knowledge current

• Stay focused on employer needs

• How can you solve employer problems

• Dress professionally
